Aerospace Manufacturing Needs Leaders Who Understand Both Technology and People

The aerospace and defense industry is constantly growing. Global demand for aircraft and advanced defense systems continues to rise, but many manufacturers are struggling with labor shortages, aging equipment, and pressure to accelerate production. A recent 2025 industry analysis from Aerospace Manufacturing & Design highlights how growing backlogs, supply-chain constraints, and workforce gaps are reshaping the production landscape. As someone working toward a future in aerospace operations, these trends stand out because they reveal what skills and leadership qualities the industry now prioritizes.

I find that companies aren’t just looking for technical expertise, but they’re looking for leaders who can guide teams through complex and high-pressure environments. My experience in the Marine Corps aligns closely with this need. Supporting aviation ordnance operations taught me how to lead teams with structure, clarity, and discipline, especially when handling mission-critical systems.

Industry research reinforces that modernization goes beyond upgrading machinery. Deloitte’s Aerospace & Defense Industry Outlook emphasizes that workforce readiness, safety consistency, and operational structure are now just as important as technological investments. Many production delays stem from gaps in training, communication, and coordination, not just equipment limitations. Leaders with experience in safety-critical environments, such as the military, are uniquely equipped to help teams navigate these challenges. I’m also continuing to strengthen my skills with emerging tools like AI, especially as this same report highlights the increasing importance of digital proficiency in modern operations.

As aerospace companies work to scale and modernize, the industry will continue to need leaders who understand both people and technology. Combining structured military leadership with a business foundation provides a strong pathway for contributing to these operational improvements. The more I learn about the industry, the clearer it becomes that effective operations rely on a balance of technical precision and strong team leadership and that’s where I aim to make an impact.
